Quick report
- Cracking
- isolated
We rode all along Buck Ridge out through McAtee to the head of bear creek to see how widespread and reactive wind slab have been. We saw no recent avalanches.
The wind drifts were not widespread. Most drifts we did find were only 1-2". One drift had a ~8" slab and we got it to crackabout 30 ft wide.
We also got short cracks in several other thinner drifts. The slab in all places is sitting on top of 2mm facets.
All slopes had facets in the upper snowpack. Shady non-wind affected slopes had ~1ft of soft facets at the surface. Sunny slopes had facet and crust combinations. Even the snow that recently fell has already faceted.
