Quick report
We toured on Lincoln Ridge this morning. We encountered supportable melt-freeze crust on all aspects below about 7,200'. In some shaded areas, this crust was a mix of melt-freeze and large surface hoar grains (see photos). We saw a melt-freeze/surface hoar crust combo like this one become a 5 avalanche cycle PWL back in Jan 2024. This layer might get buried by light snowfall tonight. Given the current weather forecast after that, who knows if this layer will ever become an issue or not.
Specifically on N to NE aspects from 7,200' up to 7,400' there was a thin breakable crust that did not have much impact on travel. Above 7,400' there was no crust, just the expected soft surface facets.
Moderate SW winds were present on the ridgetops. We did not see any areas of blowing snow. This was not surprising given that today's windward aspects in this area (SW to W) hold established melt-freeze crust on the surface.
