Quick report

Toured Rubicon in the afternoon. Below 8k there was 1cm of dust on ice. Conditions changed quickly between 8k and 8100, above which there was 4-10” of firm new snow above a crust. Ski penetration was minimal, but boots pen reached the firm crust below (4-10”). Gusty, swirling winds blew the lighter surface snow around, with some squalls in open mid-slope areas, and raised tracks near the summit. Stomping on the firm slab of new snow did not generate any cracks or collapsing. The skiing was surprisingly fun above 8100 - smooth and fast, not punchy or hooky.
