Quick report
- Cracking
- isolated
Nice powder on polar, sheltered slopes above 7k-ish. Below 7k slopes we traveled had a crust in the morning that broke down by midday. The snow below the crust was still dry in the morning but wet upon exit. We entered via Grouse but exited on the trail to avoid wet slides at our late hour (both routes are in good shape for skiing with some walking). Moderate wind transport from N-NE on ridge tops. Lots of textured surfaces in the high alpine. We did some hand shears and found variable results but some easy shears in the new snow. New snow was around a foot deep on the glacier.
Avalanche
Multiple large size 2.5-3 wet slabs released on SW slopes on Bastille ridge across the valley. One of these ran over an older slab that appeared to have released yesterday (size 1.5-2). Otherwise saw smaller wet loose on solars in thunder glacier side of Heliotrope and Grouse ck.
