We toured from 11:00 am - 16:30 pm. - Snowfall rate stronger in the morning w/ obscured skies, letting off in the afternoon with fleeting windows of visibility and sun. - No natural activity observed, however visibility was low and much snow has fallen since the most recent slides were reported. - Ski penetration ranged from 4 - 17cm. Travel was fairly easy. - Surfaces highly wind affected with many big drifts, refilled crowns, and covered tracks. Winds shifted midday from NE to SW at Austin Pass, light gusting moderate. Moderate snow transport observed. - The 3/8 crust is buried 90-130cm down at 4700’, variable w/ wind loading. 3mm surface hoar found intact 20 cm below the crust. - At 4700’, NE aspect, we performed a series of compression tests and got only resistant planar results at 2 different interfaces in the new snow layers (15cm and 30 cm down). We did however, get a moderate sudden collapse result during a deep tap test targeting the surface hoar layer. - Total snow depth at pit location >470cm.
