Snowpack
Firm, thick crusts on sun-affected aspects. This is where risks exists for a long sliding fall.
On shaded aspects, you might find less predictable breakable crusts. The top 0.25" consists of a mix of fresh snow, surface hoar, and rime. This lies above a 0.75" thick crust sandwich. Between these crust layers, a layer of small facets has developed. Below the crust sandwich, you'll find faceting decomposing snow crystals for 0.5-1.5". 16" below the snow surface, you'll find the 12/29 interface. The snow depth on these aspects is around 55".
Older glide cracks were opening up during warmer periods earlier in the month.
