Observed a variety of snow consistency and layers as we ascended from the Deroux TH. Snow consistency was varied based on aspect and solar load throughout all elevations, normal signs of wind transport, some light surface hoar from cold nights. 3600-4200’ gave us reasonable early season coverage for skinning and cautious skiing, fresh snow on a thick rain crust with visible rain gutters. A significant reduction in crust at ~4500’, and seemed to improve until we gained enough elevation to notice signs of wind affect. Steep slopes at upper elevations would release isolated dry lose but it was never concerning.
