Quick report
We climbed the NE ridge of Abe's Armchair and descended the main N couloir. Weather was calm and warm but hoar frost from the previous night was still in tact at higher elevations into the afternoon. Overall snow was still soft in the upper 8 inches but quite firm (1F) any deeper, making for some fast skiing. We stomped around on some wind slabs but they were quite stubborn. Dug a pit near the top at 9800ft on a N-NE aspect at around 1400 and observed no propagation on an extended column test. We dug pretty deep and tried to shear deeper layers to see if we could find a persistent weak layer and could not find one. The snow was deeper than our probes, if there is one it was way too deep to interact with. There was a 1 or 2" soft wind slab in small pockets along the way down, but nothing propagated beyond our ski tips. Down low, anything that got any sun was quite sticky and slow.
