Snowpack
Snow data is from a north-facing slope at 8360' in the Ogden Zone. The basil facets are wet and slowly rounding. The lower snowpack has two distinct melt-freeze crusts. The upper snowpack is a mixed bag of facets and surface hoar.
Cold temperatures, clear nights, and a shallow snowpack make for recrystallization of facets and near-surface facets. Often referred to as Loud Pow the upper sheltered northerly slopes still ski well due to this process of recrystallization.
Todays loud Pow skiing will, however, turn into tomorrow's buried persistent weak layer when new snow arrives.
