Quick report
We went up to the Northern Whitefish Range to put eyes on the Link Mtn weather station and track surface conditions before an upcoming weather pattern change. Generally, we found excellent riding conditions with no signs of instability.
- Avalanche terrain above 6000 feet appears to have relatively better coverage than further east in the forecast area.
- Southeast facing aspect at 6000 feet: 4 inches of weak, facted snow resting on a smooth crust (12/22). This crust was supportable to ski.
- North aspect at 7000 feet: we observed a layer of preserved surface hoar underneath 2 inches of recent snow.
- East aspect at 7000 feet: near surface facetes exist underneath 2 inches of recent snow. No surface hoar observed.

Snowpack
HS 100-135 cm at 7000 feet. We didn't do any stability test in snowpits. Structure is stable, yet weak. Surface conditons contain near surface facets or surface hoar depending on aspect.
