Quick report
High temperatures, clear skies, and light SW wind around 10 mph. Slight superficial refreeze overnight that deteriorated quickly. Snow was warming quickly on NE/E aspects before noon, and destabilizing the top 30cm (12") on steep slopes facing the sun. Roller balls and pinwheels were easy to trigger. Snowpack was destabilizing the most on slopes sheltered by the wind. S-W aspects were handling the high temperatures and direct solar radiation better since those slopes had already experienced previous warming cycles. Cloud cover developed earlier in the Tetons and was slowly moving across the valley towards Togwotee at 15:00.
No large D2 wet loose or slab avalanches observed on steep terrain even around rock features on the prominent peaks of the Pinnacles, Lava, Two Oceans, and Breccia. Southerly wind scoured aspects are melting down to the bare ground. Otherwise snow coverage and access to terrain remains good.
Snowpack
9400' NE aspect HS: 160cm ECTN21 down 30cm on wet to moist snow interface. Boot penetration: 30cm
Snowpack was moist down to the ground, with previous faceted snow rounding quickly. Water had begun pooling on multiple old crusts in the top 70cm. The most notable was the firm crust 70cm down above moist facets. This was the largest hardness change of the whole snowpack (4F-1F+).
