Quick report

Found nice snow conditions while traveling through mid and upper elevations today.

  • 243cm deep snowpack at 6500' on a north facing slope.
  • Early Feb. crust/facet combo buried 114cm below the surface. Facets appear to be rounding, but still very present.
  • ECTX on a right-side up snowpack above the crust layer (see photo)
  • Could see recently formed cornices and wind slabs on southerly aspects of Link Mountain
  • No instability noted on small convex rollovers that were approaching 40 degrees.
No signs of instability on northerly aspects at mid and upper elevations today. Did see one avalanche on Link Mountain (below) that failed either last night or earlier this morning (sunday) on a southerly aspect.

Snowpack

  • Generally stable conditions during the tour today.
  • Did not have any cracking or whumphing while traveling on NW-N-NE aspects at mid and upper elevations.
  • ECTX at 6500' with a right-side up snowpack (see below)
  • 2cm crust layers at 36, 62, and 92 below surface. all three layers had rounded facets above and/or below. All were well bonded.
  • 243cm deep snowpack, deepest I've seen this season. Almost looks like winter...
  • Facets are still above 20230203 crust layer that was buried about 115cm deep.
