Breccia Peak

Toured up to 10,500 feet on Breccia Peak. HS averaged about 60 to 65 inches (~160 cm) above 10,000 feet. Dug at 10,300 on a SE aspect and found an almost identical structure to that found yesterday on west Angle at 9700 feet on a SW aspect - about 10 inches of new snow sitting on a stout melt freeze crust. Two ice lenses from last week's warm, high pressure had formed in the top 20 inches, further isolating the December facets from impact that are sitting about 3 feet below the surface. 

The Togwotee snowpack structure remains poor but southerly aspects are showing high strength from several crusts and cold temperatures. Continue to keep steep, rocky, and wind-affected northerlies on the hazard radar.

While no wind slabs were seen, there is plenty of low-density snow available for transport. The forecast tomorrow is calling for increased westerly winds. Watch for snow transport and soft slab development in exposed terrain over the next 24 hours.
