Quick report

Big thanks to Randy Gravatt!!! He alerted me of these slides, and then rode in to show me where they were. He has seen only one or two, but we found 9.

I think these slides happened just before Xmas when it was pouring rain in Island Park. The mountains picked up several inches of water as both rain and wet snow. The way the debris ran looks like wet slab debris. The weak layer of old October snow was likely dry, but the slab was certainly wet.

All of these slides seemed to have started at about 8600 feet in elevation. They ran very far.

Beautiful and huge surface hoar crystals in the bottom of Hellroaring. Photo below.

We found one very small slab avalanche that had been triggered recently. Despite tracks on many many steep slopes, we didn't see any other recent slides.
