Quick report
Snow from Tragedy Springs towards Allen Camp was equally soft under dense trees and on open slopes. The top 4-6" was more consolidated than the snow under it. It was supportable to my snowmobile when riding flat, but skis would dive into the unconsolidated snow when putting it on edge. I sunk above my ankles whenever I stepped off the machine.
Many previously large cornices in this area were now rounded in appearance, and several large chunks had broken off within the past week. No consequential wet loose activity had been triggered by these cornice failures.
Afternoon clouds built and some light rain was observed over Carson Pass and through Hope Valley.
Plenty of snow remains for travel in this area - even the south facing slopes on the way to Allen Camp.
