Quick report

Cracking
widespread
Collapsing
isolated

We took advantage of the new storm snow to sample a variety of lower-angle terrain within Stevens Pass ski area. Despite sticking to mellow terrain we observed widespread windslabs with shooting cracks throughout the ski area boundaries. It was not entirely clear if these were breaking on the old/new snow interface or somewhere within the new snow, it was DEEP. We also observed isolated collapsing at various locations and a number of crowns from afar from recent natural avalanches on steeper, unsupported slopes.

Avalanche

Multiple visible crowns of recent natural avalanches throughout the (closed) ski area — we did not get close enough to any to investigate if they broke on the new/old interface or on a mid-storm interface
