Gash Knob

There was around 3 to 6 inches of recent snowfall from the weekend resting on crusts everywhere except upper elevation north aspects.  Instabilities today were isolated to small avalanches within the recent snow .

We observed isolated wind slab instabilities in the recent snow along upper elevation ridgelines. North aspects were generally scoured while south aspects were loaded. Small drifts produced stubborn cracking, and we felt one decent collapse on a low angle wind pillow. Another group reported triggering a small wind drift as well. These wind slabs were small but could still prove hazardous in consequential terrain. 

Today's sun heated up the recent snow on south aspects. We were able to trigger small wet loose sluffs in the recent snow on a southeast roll late in the morning. The recent snow will be crusted over on sunny aspects tomorrow. It would take significant warming to break down the much stouter crust underneath the recent snow.
