Quick report
4-6 inches of wet, heavy snow above a ski-supportable crust. In steep terrain, it was quite possible to get all the snow above this crust to move in a cohesive block under your ski, e.g. while breaking a new skin track across a steep spot. However, it showed little ability to prepare further. Minimal sun, but very warm. Heavy wet snow became rain in the afternoon. My overall impression was that anything in or under steep, rocky terrain was a dangerous place to be today. As mentioned above, we turned around for this reason.
Avalanche
Numerous small slides coming down off the cliffs surrounding Great Scott Bowl, and the Source Lake area in general. There were almost certainly some larger ones too, but we did not have enough visibility to see. However there were multiple times we heard slides coming down that sounded much bigger than the others, and lasted for probably 20+ seconds. Some D1 slides hit the skin track going up to Pineapple Pass. Some parties continued going up anyways, despite cliffs continuing to release regularly. Most of it was small, but you never know when something bigger will come down, and the skin track was obviously well within range. We saw this from afar as we had already decided to turn around.
