East North

A big thank you to our pilot Craig Howard for the safe and beautiful flight. We had great views of the Sawtooths, Reynolds, the Liberty Bell area, north towards Jack Peak, and east over Harts Pass. There were numerous recent small wet loose avalanches in lower and middle elevations especially on south aspects. We saw a number of recent slab avalanches as well. There are more details on those in the avalanche database. Some of the older avalanche crowns have softened with a little snow over them. These may be from earlier in the week between March 9th and 12th. Some newer slides were in isolated steep features with crowns in excess of 3 feet. There were also three newer avalanches clustered in the general Delacy Ridge area all with some east aspect to them. These would be from the last 72 hours and more likely the last 48. One of these between Tower Mountain and the Needles stands out with a widely propogating crown line stretching hundreds of feet and likely 2-3' deep. This may have run on weak snow that developed between March 4th and 8th. Other deeper slabs may have stepped down to the Jan 31st crust.
