We dug a pit earlier at same SW aspect at 4800' and found no signs of instability (ECTX, multiple handshear tests non-reactive). At our pit, 270cm snowpack, somehow only 40cm new snow that seemed to be well bonded to earlier crusts. The top crust was decomposing and wet underneath under a P-hardness interface. Wind was ripping from the SW above 5000', but was totally calm at the parking lot.
Avalanche
Human-triggered D1 windslab, ~1.5 feet deep, ~100 feet wide. Triggered at 5,600', on a SW aspect, on ~35-45 degree slopes in Phantom area. Sluff stepped down into a windslab and carried a disconcerting volume on steep slopes.
