General conditions east facing slope in vicinity Mt Mcrae The new snow of previous 2 days was wind affected and variable but no major wind scouring as often seen at in this area, average snow depth is barely at threshold but enough cover for relativly straight forward travel if careful. There are decent deposits of wind affected powder in gully features, wind slab is evident below ridge but no significant cornice development or evicence of naturally triggered avalanche activity. Shallow slab was breaking away under skis on some slopes (25-30degrees) but not propagating. Rainbow skifield is almost there with the makings of a consistent base, however any skiing on lower mountain is likely to penetrate thin snow cover over rocks. If ski touring skifield mangement asks you access terain via West Bowl cat track and to stay off main ski area basin as work is ongoing to prepare for opening and a number of manmade hazards exist.
