Quick report

• No avalanche activity observed. • Snowfall from yesterday’s storm totaled 6” on the Canyon floor, 10” at 5000’, and increasing to 14” above 6000’. • Wind slabs up to 2’ thick in exposed terrain. These were unreactive to cuts. • Found some pre-storm snow under the new powder on a northerly aspect at 6400’. This was a 6” thick pencil hard melt-freeze crust to the ground. • Westerly winds were transporting moderate amounts of snow on Elk Mountain (photo). • No other signs of instability observed. • Overcast with brief periods of sun, light snowfall in the morning. • Winds were calm or light from the SW with occasional moderate gusts above 6000’. • Daytime highs hovered around the freezing point on the Canyon floor and reached the high teens °F up around 6400’ elevation.
