Quick report

Went to the historic runout of Hillman's today to dig a practice pit at 3900ft on an E/NE facing aspect. We generally found a right-side-up snowpack, ~105-115cm deep, with fist-hard snow over four-finger snow. We performed a CT and ECT, and observed hard failures (ECTN25) about 10cm down that fractured in non-planar, irregular way. The top layer of snow felt pretty cohesionless and we did not notice any other signs of instability, though we were in a very sheltered, wind-protected area. We also poked up towards the bottom of Hillman's, which was still looking fairly thin. Visibility was limited.
