Alaska Avalanche School Rec Level 1 course walked up to the drainage behind the Arctic Valley tube park and dug pits on both north and south aspects at 2700’. We observed 3–5 mm depth hoar, with some grains chained together. In our south-facing pit, an ECTP15 at 35 cm from the ground failed within this depth hoar layer. Tests conducted in our north facing pits did not produce any results. It felt pleasantly warm in the sun at -7*F and surface conditions remain soft.
