Quick report
I was impressed by how well the upper elevation terrain in White Pine Canyon and beyond appears to have recovered from the Solstice wind event. Travel in places like the Red Baldy aprons, upper Silver Creek, and east pass can sometimes be heinous even in fat conditions, but the generally light-moderate winds of the Christmas week storms have allowed an even distribution of snow. Still looking thin out towards Maybird/Hogum. In starting zone terrain on Red Stack, Red Baldy and Silver Creek Peak, I generally found total snow depths to be upwards of 150 cm, and quick snowpits revealed a relatively homogenous upper snowpack, save for the odd massive wind slab from last weekend on obvious terrain features. Certainly no rain stack of rain crusts/facets present above 10K in White Pine.
Snowpack
Snow on SE-S-W will have a melt-freeze crust tommorow, elevation and slope angle dependent. Up high in White Pine and upper Silver Creek, winds were sufficient to damage the snow surface in some places, particularly on SE-S-SW facing slopes, though for the most part skiing remains good on E-N-W facing slopes. In sheltered locations the skiing is, of course, awesome, although the mid and low elevations in LCC do still look thin, and feature a more complex snowpack to boot.
