Red Flags
Recent Avalanches, Heavy Snowfall, Wind Loading, Collapsing, Poor Snowpack Structure

Out for some low angle, low risk adventure to take a peek at the snowpack. The winds had quieted down for most of the afternoon while out, at least below treeline. A soft, pillowy surface and firm, plush chunk of storm snow building up appeared alluring at first, however, even a few steps off the skin track and there was widespread collapsing even on slopes around 20 degrees. West aspects appeared to have experienced the most scouring. The facet layers from the December dry spell quickly revealed themselves with trap door-like conditions once you stepped off your skis/board. Test were a mixed batch of results, see below.
