Quick report

Cracking
isolated

Shaded aspects held up to a foot of medium density snow that felt unconsolidated on top of the crust layer. The Beaver Pond is growing an impressive hoar garden! We hoped to find some New Years corn on the upper pitch of Skook Face but in classic Flathead fashion it was holding a crust into the early afternoon. Lower sunny aspects had evidence of chunder balls presumably from yesterday, mostly around Rocky areas. When we went to ski the chutes they still sluffed into wet balls only a few inches deep but 10’ wide that ran to the valley bottom. Hoar was noted on sunny aspects, and wet slides began down low triggered by skiers. Did not note any new natural slides today but it remained colder than yesterday.

Light winds on the ridge top and a thin cloud layer seemed to keep things cooler than yesterday.
