Collapsing
widespread

During our observation, we discovered 2 distinct, reactive layers in the snow pack. Our snow depth on our east facing pit was 95cm or just at 3 ft. It consisted primarily of wind loaded snow and new snow atop a real weak layer of facets near the ground. We performed an extended column test and the results were ECTN 13@54 cm and the ECTP21@5cm. The last one being the most concerning as this indicates the potential for an avalanche to propagate near the ground creating a potentially large dangerous avalanche.

Snowpack

A layer of weak facets lays near the ground with wind loaded snow on top on this east aspect and similar conditions on north facing slopes as well. Extreme caution should be exercised on slopes greater than 30 degrees and while traveling through any sort of avalanche terrain. This type of snowpack can be easily triggered by just adding more weight(snowmobiles) to it, can be easily remotely triggered, and easily triggered in thin spots( rocks, shrubs, stumps, etc)
