Quick report
Took a quick tour of our continental zone to collect some snowpack data before the weather moved in. Cold temperatures and clear nights have created well-formed surface hoar measuring up to 6mm wide throughout the area. This recently formed surface hoar was being buried by light snowfall as the day progressed. An additional layer of older buried surface hoar was found buried 23 cm down. Both of these weak layers will be on our radar as they may cause instabilities when buried by a cohesive slab layer.

Calm, cold, and mostly cloudy for the start of the day, becoming overcast and snowy later. Recently formed surface hoar to 6+mm throughout the area.
Snowpack
A thin snowpack measured 55cm near road level and about 70cm at 2500 feet. Widespread recently formed surface hoar up to 6+ mm was observed throughout the area. Cold temperatures have been causing faceting within the surface snow as well as layers below, creating a relatively weak snowpack. A buried layer of surface hoar was found under the 20cm of most recent snowfall. Structure remains fair since there is no slab overlying the weaker snow at the moment, but this could change in the near future.
