25 Short to Shadow

Wind slab developement began at 9000' from moderate SW winds. Slabs were less than a foot deep and most prominent on terrain where wind was funneling through Avalanche Canyon. Wind slabs failed planar and easy with hand shears, but were stubborn to trigger on small slopes. Continued wind tonight and tomorrow could change the reactivity. Keep it on your radar. Recent snow: 8" in the middle elevations increasing to 12-16" in upper elevations. Recent snow sluffed fairly easily on southerly aspects above a melt freeze crust. Time will help snow bond to that crust. In areas unaffected by the wind, recent snow has not set up into a slab with poor quality in hand shears. Mostly overcast cloud cover breaking slightly in the afternoon. Light snowfall throughout the day. 

Isolated to specific wind slab development in open, exposed terrain near ridgelines. Cracking did not propagate very far.
