Quick report
We started from the typical Tamarack pullout and began skinning at about 7:30 AM. Our route went past Tamarack Lake and up to the south ridge of Tamarack, where we planned on testing wind slab stability on our skin up to the peak. We were unable to kick off any slabs on test slopes; the new snow was light/fluffy and seemed to be very well bonded to the rain crust that was on the surface before this storm. There were otherwise no signs of instability, and any weak layers in the snowpack appeared to be unreactive. At the peak of Tamarack we saw tracks descending Hourglass bowl and didn’t see any slides or wind slabs that had been triggered by prior skiers. Additionally, we didn’t see any cracking or signs of instability in the bowl. Things were lining up well and we decided to descend Hourglass and were rewarded with great skiing. 6 inches of light snow isn’t a great test of strength for this snowpack though, and will have to reevaluate the persistent problem once more storms come in. No signs of instability
