Tamarack Peak

Today, we found about an inch of new snow resting on top of a refrozen crust in the Tamarack Peak area. The crust below the new snow was firm and icy on the more northerly-facing aspects. The crust felt slightly softer on the more easterly aspects that got some sun today. These areas got a little softer as the day warmed up, but we still saw no signs of wet snow instabilities. Scoured areas along the ridges and wind-created surface textures on the leeward-facing slopes indicated that the winds were strong enough to have blown snow, but there was not much snow available to blow around.
