Quick report
May 1st - ASGC left Heliotrope summer trailhead and ascended to camp at 6800' on the Coleman glacier. Traveled on foot until approximately 4600' and transitioned to skins. On ascent route to camp found generally stable snow with boot pen - 15cm and ski pen - 5cm. Glide cracks on Coleman around 6200'. Crown observed high on Coleman Headwall around 10000 - D3, R3, NIHS, NW aspect. May 2nd - During AM Forecast Mtg observed 3CMMFcr. Entire alpine terrain experienced strong overnight freeze and softened during the day with strong solar input, starting with solar aspects. During our travel we experienced M-S winds with extreme gusts ascending Coleman-Deming to Roman Headwall and skiers summit of Mount Baker. The day started off with CLR skies with clouds starting to build around 2pm going from FEW- BRK and the Summit became Obscured around 4pm. Off the summit there was firm snow with rime ice for the 1st 400 ft of the decent, the snow transitioned to refrozen corn around 10300' to 9000'. On May 3rd at 8am with had OVC with a Trace of snow at 7k, and a pencil thin MFcr below the new snow, on our decent out the Coleman Deming, the MFcr diminished to corn snow at 6600 ft and yielded good supportable skiing down to tree line. Small pin wheels were observed at 5500 ft. The glide cracks are continuing to open up and enlarge between 6100ft and 6800 ft. Snow line was approximately 4000ft.
