Quick report

Good visibility until ~ 9am when it started snowing and kept up (around S-1) most of the day. I dug on a WSW aspect at 5150’ and found poor structure: - 60 cms of settling HST with multiple sudden planar results at the New/Old snow interface (CTH x2 SP down 60) - and repeatable sudden collapse results on the 1-2mm facets below a thin MFcr 70 cms down (CTH x2 SC down 70) Both layers failed simultaneously in both tests. See photo. We stayed out of avalanche terrain and found excellent skiing in the low angle. The settling HST is making it more floaty!

Avalanche

Recent activity visible from Hwy 542: - - WNW-ish aspect on Skyline Ridge, >5000 ft, large propagating crown - Another vantage of the skier triggered avalanche on the Elbow, N aspect, 5000 ft. - Huntoon, 2’ +/- depth crown, propagated ~60ft, mostly filling in now, NE aspect, 5000 ft. - Mt. Ann ridge line, large crowns around rocks (flat light, photo taken on Monday 02/03)
