Quick report
High winds were present throughout the day, but not much snow available for transport except in sheltered northerly terrain gave us confidence in our travel plans. Did not observe any natural avalanches or signs of instability but wind problems were our primary concern as we traveled in avalanche terrain today. The avalanche that was accidentally triggered was small, and not entirely surprising given our observations and expectations based on recent forecasts.
Avalanche
Skier accidentally triggered D1 wind slab avalanche in a north facing small chute at 7800’. We observed active loading and an earlier debris pile, though no visible crown, before dropping in. Crown depth ~6”, width 20’, ran 100’ vertically.
