Santa brought us the wind! Significant northwesterly wind event early this morning into today with fresh drifts up to 3' and 4F+ in the alpine. Most were about a foot thick. Easy to trigger wind slabs on leeward features steeper than 35 degrees. Crowns and skin track quickly drifted in over the course of a few hours. Wind-protected slopes showed no signs of instability in the foot of recent storm snow.
Shooting cracks easy to initiate in all but the stiffer/thicker wind drifts. A couple of collapses in drifted features as well.Weather

Significant northwesterly wind drifting event overnight, with 2' drifts across the road by Irwin. The windchill on nearby Cinnamon station was -50F this morning. Moderate to strong winds with continued blowing snow this morning.

Several natural wind slab avalanches ran this morning, up to D1.5. We ski-triggered a handful of D1 wind slabs on small terrain features. Slabs were about a foot thick or a little less.
