Observation: Mill B South

I hiked with spikes to Lake Blanche and then snowshoed to lower Sundial Peak. I observed wet snow releasing in the blue ice waterfall area and also some snow rollers.

I also snowshoed above Lake Blanche below the summer boulder fields which is the preferred route in summer climbing in that area. I was there around 5 PM and both heard and observed wet release activity there. Rocks could also be heard falling occasionally which is not unusual for spring in the Wasatch.

As I snowshoed down toward the TH at 6:30 PM I observed that more snow had released from the cliff bands above the summer route and also running close to the trail there. This trend will likely continue there until the storm cycle rolls in later in the weekend. I've noticed that people hike in the area and are often unaware that significant avalanche risk is present there (and has already ran during the last month). Absolutely steer clear of this avy path for sure. Enjoy a safe week!
