Quick report
We toured from Rabbit Lake trailhead to Peak 2.5 starting around 10:00am. At 11:00 around 2500ft, the sky was broken, there was no precipitation, winds were light from the SW, the temp was 30*F, and there was 9in. of new snow. Around 3300ft at 12:30pm, while waiting for a visibility window, the skies were obscured, there periods of flurries (S1-2), calm wind, a temperature of 27F, and there was 13in. of new snow. The snowpack consisted of the powdery new snow (Fist hard) over a hard-packed layer or sometimes powder over tundra in some areas above 3100ft. Hand shears and pole probing showed no signs of instability (i.e., the new snow was well-bonded and without slab properties and had limited propensity for loose avalanches with our timing). Cloud cover preserved powder conditions until late in the day. Plenty of snow was available for transport but winds remained calm enough that no wind loading was observed. At the bottom of our second descent around 15:00, we observed some solar warming in the new snow below 2500ft, creating heavier snow conditions.
