Aeneas Ridge

We visited Aeneas Ridge to tinker with the weather station.  As luck would have it, the wind sensors freed themselves before we arrived..

• Moderate SW winds with strong gusts caused light to moderate blowing snow above 7000 feet. 
• We kicked small cornices down wind-loaded slopes without any results. 
• Cloud cover and cold temps quashed any potential for wet loose. 
• We found unremarkable results in our test pit at 6400' NW.
• The road to Camp Misery is.. miserable: the coverage is thin and slick up to 5300'. Non-motorized folks have been parking at the switchback TH. 
• Despite the road, we encountered many sledders and skiers.  The area has been well ridden with no indication of slabs or sluffs. 

We chose to stick to mostly low-angle slopes and traveled one at a time on short steeper pitches. 

Only cracking occurred in steep tree wells. Not representative of average conditions. Many sled and ski tracks on steep slopes without slabs or sluffs. No obvious signs of instability.

• HS = 170cm
• ECTN 23 down 70 cm
• CTM12 (Q2) down 30 cm, CTM14 (Q1) down 70 cm
• PST 30/100 (End) down 70 cm on Facets (0.5-1.0mm) below the AR crust. (The AR  crust is 4cm thick and pencil hard; it is bridging this weak layer)
