Elephants Hump

We skied in the Elephant's Hump area today. When we arrived, there was maybe 2 inches of new snow at 10 AM. At this point snowfall was sustained and consistent throughout the day at an average of S1 totals. The new snow appeared to be bonding well to the old surface as mitt pits and shovel tilt did not reveal any sort of instability at the new old snow interface. Throughout the morning, winds were almost nonexistent, but then picked up right around noon. Winds were consistent out of the SW at moderate speeds for the rest of the day. Snow was observed being transported across the surface in open areas below tree line. However, any wind deposits and features did not display any cracking or slab characteristics yet. Some of the deepest pockets of snow we found was 6 to 10 inches deep. New snow totals added up pretty quickly and on steeper slopes we did observe loose dry avalanches. There was some entrenchment, but not adding to large amounts. Sluff would maybe run 50 to 100' down slope. Other than this, we did not observe any other signs of the instability.
