Gulf of Slides - South Snowfield/Sandbox

Snowpack is well-connected and well-developed. We found 105cm of snow above a well-developed crust layer which we determined to be the functional ground (impenetrable with pole probing). 105cm - 80cm 1Finger 80cm - 60cm 4Finger 65-Functional Ground 1Finger ECTN12 40CMDown. Hand shears were pulling variably throughout the terrain, showing high spatial variability. We were able to travel in the terrain and do much skiing with good terrain management in a way that felt appropriate. Avoiding steep rolls and obvious wind-loaded slopes.

Calm winds guide the way,

Powder glides beneath strong skis,

 Choices sharp and clear.

 Had to check our map after a couple of laps to confirm we were in fact still skiing in New Hampshire.

Stability was relatively good. Paths are well-connected and well-developed. Large start zones such as Gully 1 and Gully 2 gave us pause, we chose to avoid these areas. Debris from South Snowfields (2/4) was apparent and impressive, Gully 1 runout showed signs of multiple natural cycles.
