Quick report

During our assessment of the Summer Lion Head Trail today, simple stability tests suggested generally good stability for the current snowpack. However, we observed the traverse to be fully covered with snow, forming a wide, smooth planar surface with minimal exposed vegetation to anchor the snowpack. This smooth bed surface could easily become a sliding layer once new snow loads accumulate from future storms. Even a small avalanche could have severe consequences, potentially carrying a person over steep cliff bands or into trees. With new snow,  the Winter Lion Head Trail which avoids known avalanche paths  would be the safer choice.
