Quick report

Somedays the gales are howling, sometimes the sea is still as glass...

  • Toured various aspects in the southern WF Range today
  • Found 25-30 cm of recent dry settled powder on all aspects
  • A 4-6cm supportable crust was found on all aspects 
  • Right side up snowpack with wet rounding crystals below 45 cm on southerly aspects from recent warming period
  • Northerly aspect had a right side up snowpack with dry snow down to the Feb. 3 crust buried over 100 cm

Cool start to the morning with very light winds out of the SW. Mostly cloudy skies turned to overcast by early afternoon. No new precip.

Snowpack

Found 25-30 cm of settled recent powder on top of supportable crust on various aspects.

  • Trace of new snow overnight
  • Both north and south facing snow pits had a small layer of graupel at the bottom of the recent snow
  • NW facing snow pit: HS 253 cm, ECTX, dry snow sandwiched between various crusts in a right side up snowpack. 
  • SW facing snow pit: HS 226 cm, ECTX, wet rounding crystals below crust at 45 cm
