Quick report
- Cracking
- isolated
Aside from the small observed avalanches, we only saw very isolated cracking in wind affected terrain on SW and NE aspects. In our lone hasty pit on a SW aspect, we observed fracture initiation upon isolation of the column about 4-6 inches from the surface on near surface facets. We saw surface hoar on all aspects up to 7200 feet that formed overnight (11/29). We estimated it to be 4-5 mm. See image. Riding quality was great in protected areas and variable in exposed upper elevation terrain. Lots of rime at ridge weather station (see image) but wind sensor was still spinning. So that’s good.
Avalanche
3 natural small (D1) soft slab avalanches. N aspect. 7000 ft. Just off ridge on Mt. Aeneas. Likely wind slabs that appeared to release during storm and prior to wind shifting to NNE. Crowns appeared a bit filled in. See image.
