Did a short walk in the south part of the Wellsville range today on my way to SLC. Hand pit in shaded canyon bottom at 6700 feet revealed a surprisingly well condensed snowpack. Took some tugging to release the most recent storm snow from the rest of the pack, with a poor quality shear. No collapsing or cracking noted.
Due to the constraints of time and being solo I did not tempt the steeper terrain, but the quality if the snow surface was excellent.
