Quick report
2 pits at ~900 m, NNE aspect on 45 degree slopes. Snowpack 150-160 cm deep. ETCN on both pits. Test 1 was dug to just deeper than 1 m, Shovel pressure applied after the test, whole block separated 1m down Q2 Test 2 dug 130 m down to find a fist hard melt form facet layer from ~120 cm under the new snow which varied from 1 F for the first 65 cm above the facets to 4 F for another 50 cm and some soft snow at the top. A few thin melt crusts were found within the top 50 cm of the snowpack. Same result with the shovel - Q2 also down 1 m. Shovel test interpreted with caution but we took it to mean the recent snow could act as one big slab.
