Beautiful day in the mountains.
Snowpack
I dug a snowpit on an East aspect at 5,100' on the backside of Spout Springs. The snowpack was just under 5' deep at this location. Across the valley, on more solar-facing aspects the snowpack was much thinner. No alarming results in my snowpack tests, but the snowpack structure is poor in the top 1'. On the snow surface is large hoar, which I saw on all aspects between the parking lot and the top of the old ski area. It ranged in size but was 6mm or greater where I dug my snowpit. Below the surface hoar are two distinct layers of facets sandwiched between two stout crust layers.
