Quick report
What started as a scouting mission with low expectations to assess coverage turned into an enjoyable ski tour. We encountered snow types ranging from cold, wintery snow to wet, sun-affected snow, to wind-compacted snow ranging from 20 cm to 60 cm in depth. Wind-loaded snow was observed on the northeast aspect of the summit of Elephant's hump. ECTN23 @ 19 cm was observed after investigating stability on an N-NW aspect at 8600ft. Density changes in the pit profile indicate wind-affected snow near the surface, a 1cm-thick ice crust 20 cm down, and sugary faceted snow at the ground. 2 mm facets existed above this crust and 3 mm facets existed below.
