Quick report

Cracking
isolated

1-2in crusts for the entire ascent, with northern aspects above 8600ft being pretty icy. We observed small cracks below our skis on steeper N-facing slopes approaching crater lake, with some small chunks of snow separating and sliding down. When we got to Crater Lake, we saw cornices on the ridge SW of Steven’s Peak, a few of which had fallen. Crampons were very helpful on the ascent above Crater Lake, as the snow hadn’t softened enough by 11am on northern aspects to be a comfortable skins-only effort. Clear skies, little cloud cover, only sporadic wind.
