Quick report

Cracking
widespread

With Crystal chairs closed for wind, took a walk to Silver Basin expecting quiet powder. Instead found around a foot of very touchy upside down storm snow with 4-6” of finger hard wind/temp affected snow on top of 6-8” of fist hard cold powder. Layering was similar from 5000’ up to 6500’. Observed 1-3 foot crowns and large debris of multiple natural avalanches on all terrain above 35 degrees and most ridge lines, including crowns spanning Three Way Peak and Joe’s Badass Shoulder(too grey and murky for photos). Stayed on mellow terrain but even so managed to trigger a large avalanche that appeared to take all the storm snow and ran on what seems to be a melt freeze crust from warm temps yesterday perhaps. Warm and ‘snowing’ on my exit but very wet.

Avalanche

Widespread natural cycle around all of Silver Basin. Many D1.5-2 avalanches with crowns starting in anything steeper than 35 degrees. Appeared to have occurred both during the storm as well as very fresh debris around 11am.
